A Control Chart is a tool – sometimes referred to as a “process behaviour chart” – that’s used to ascertain whether a business process is in a state of statistical control the tool is often used as a monitoring tool, one which can trigger process improvement activity.

Control charts, which are a statistical tool, help show whether variation within a process is under control or not under control i.e. is subjected to a changes outside normal variation. Where the process is not under control – Control charts can help verify the origin of the problem as the results of the chart can show indicative sources of variation.
