A Six Sigma Green belt is a qualified business improvement professional that has been trained on Six Sigma.

A Green belt can expect to lead improvement initiatives but only as part of their role – (a key difference is that Black belts can expect to be fully employed in this role). Further key differences with a six sigma Black belt is the knowledge that the green belt has on the subject matter. A six sigma green belt is expected to have less knowledge on six sigma than their counterparts and as such should expect work under the guidance of black belts.

Green belts are expected to have a really good grounding on the key basic elements of six sigma this will normally include various statistical methods, problem solving techniques, DMAIC, the history of six sigma, sustainment techniques.

For those looking to pursue a Six Sigma Green belt role there are many commercialy run training courses these can typically vary in duration but all have similar syllabus and having sat these courses qualified six sigma green belts can approach small business improvement initiatives with confidence.
