One of the key attributes of Value Stream Mapping is the mapping of the flow of information. Within many organizations there is a variety of methods of communicating information – these can generally be distilled into two forms manual information flow and Electronic information flow.

Manual information flow can take a variety of forms from discussions/conversations through to reports or memo’s
Electronic Information Flow
Simular to Manual information flow – electronic information flow can take a variety of forms from EDI interfaces with applications, Email, Internet. Importantly various types of information may be exchanged from transactional e.g. a Purchase Order, through to an exception report or work trigger.
